Miles and Iwuoha Earn All-Conference Nods

Big West Release

FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's point guard Chante Miles and forward Kathleen Iwuoha earned Big West All-Conference selections, the conference announced Monday morning.

Miles was selected as an All-Conference First Team member while fellow senior Iwuoha was named to the All-Conference honorable mention list.  It was Miles second selection to a Big West All-Conference team after earning an honorable mention nod last season.

Miles is averaging a team-high 19.7 points per game in her final year as a Titan and is currently second in the Big West Conference in that category.  The Compton, Calif. native has continued to work her way into the Cal State Fullerton women's basketball record book this season as she sits eighth-place all time with 1,429 points in her career.

The senior earned Big West Player of the week honors on Jan. 5 after averaging 23 points, 9 assists, and 3.5 rebounds to lead the Titans to back-to-back wins against UMKC and Seattle. The Big West Player of the Week nod was the first of her career, and the first for the women's basketball program since the 2009 season.

"We are thrilled for Chante; this is a big honor for her," head coach Daron Park said. "In a team sport it's still important to acknowledge truly great individual play.  Chante is so deserving of this honor, she's had an amazing senior year and an amazing growth in the two years she's been here with me.  I can't think of a better way to acknowledge all of this hard work than to have her receive this honor."

Iwuoha has been a consistent force in the paint for the Titans throughout her entire career in a Fullerton uniform and is one of the top-five rebounders in program history.  The senior from Rancho Cucamonga leads the Big West Conference in overall rebounding and offensive rebounding at 8.2 and 2.92 rebounds per game, respectively.

"I'm excited that the coaches in our league notice and understand the value that Kat brings to our team," Park said.  "She has had a great year, and if you look at the numbers I think a case can be made for her as a second-team all-conference player.  Obviously that is just a credit to the depth in our league this year when you have a kid with eight double doubles on the year be on the honorable mention list.  She was excited to get the news, and her teammates were excited for her. Now we can look to add a team award to go along with these great individual awards."

Miles and Iwuoha will begin their final Big West Conference Tournament at Titan Gym against UC Riverside at 8:30 p.m.
