FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team dropped its third-straight game to open the 2014-15 season Friday night at Titan Gym, losing to Villanova, 50-43, behind 15 points from Caroline Coyer and 14 points from Alex Louin.

Tonight was the second game in a row the Titans (0-3) have shot over 40 percent from the field while holding their opponent to under 30 percent shooting, but this has not been translating into win's, as Fullerton has lost on both instances.

Villanova turned to its defensive intensity to force turnovers in the first half after both teams were slow in finding their offensive rhythm.   The Wildcats forced 10 turnovers in the first frame that led directly to 15 points.

The halftime lead for the Wildcats was 27-18, as Fullerton ended the first frame shooting 42 percent, while Villanova shot 31 percent from the field and 38 percent from the three-point line.

The Titans did their best to not let the Wildcats run away with the game in the second half by clamping down on defense and trading baskets with Villanova.  A 7-0 run by the Titans in the last five minutes of the game created excitement for Titan fans, but it was not enough as Fullerton would only get as close as 48-43 after a layup by Chante Miles with 18 seconds left in the game.

Miles led the way for the Titans on offense with 14 points (4-of-7), and shot 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line.  Kathleen Iwuoha was a spark off of the Titan bench yet again, pouring in eight points on 4-of-7 shooting.

The Titans dominated down low, holding a 24-10 advantage on points in the paint, and a 39-26 rebounding advantage in the game.  Leading the charge on the boards were Amanda Tivenius who pulled down eight and Samantha Logan who contributed seven.

CSF's Daeja Smith was the beneficiary of low post sets for most of the night as she delivered another solid outing for Fullerton, scoring eight points and grabbing six rebounds in only 17 minutes.

Fullerton will now start a season-high six game road trip beginning on Monday with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Weber State in Ogden, Utah at Dee Events Center.
