Goni, McPhie Earn All-Far West Region Honors

FULLERTON, Calif. – Following their standout performances for the Titans in 2017, Ross McPhie and Samuel Goni were named the to United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Third Team, the organization announced Friday.

The two juniors helped lead Fullerton to a 10-8-4 record and to its third Big West Conference Championship in four years while also leading the Titans to their third NCAA Tournament appearance in four season.

In his first year with the squad after suffering an injury prior to the 2016 season, Goni led the Titans in both total points with 19 and goals scored with nine. Goni's 19 total points ranked him fifth overall in the Big West Conference while his nine goals on the season ranked him third in the conference. Goni also received Big West All-Conference First Team honors.

Following his breakout season as a sophomore where he was second on the team with eight total points, McPhie showed tremendous improvements in his third season at Fullerton, far surpassing his season totals from a year ago with 17 total points in 2017. McPhie tallied seven goals and three assists on the season while starting in all 22 games for the Titans. McPhie's stellar season landed him a spot on the all-conference first team and while also earning Big West Co-Midfielder of the year.

McPhie is the first Cal State Fullerton men's soccer player to win Big West Midfielder of the year in the history of the program.

Both Goni and McPhie return to the Titans for their senior season as they look to lead Fullerton to yet another Big West Championship and its 11th NCAA Tournament appearance with hopes leading the Titans on run past the first round of the tournament for the first time since 1996.
