Rodriguez Elias Garners Big West Defensive Player of the Week Honors

IRVINE, Calif. - Titan goalkeeper David Rodriguez Elias earned Big West Defensive Player of the Week after posting two shutouts this weekend and tying the school shutout record with nine on the year. 

Elias tied the school's single season shutout record on Saturday night recording his ninth shutout of the year, marking Mike Ammann's accomplishment in 1993 while the Titans also posted their 400th win in program history that same night. 

The Huntington Beach native led the Titans to a 2-0 weekend by logging six saves including stopping four on Saturday night against rival UC Irvine. 

The 6-2 keeper is ranked 8th in the nation in shutout percentage (0.60) while also being ranked 26th in team goals against average (0.78) and ranked 4th in goalie minutes played (1382:59).

Elias is also atop the Big West leaderboard ranking first in shutouts (9) and goals against average (0.78) while recording 42 saves on the season so far. 

The Titan keeper had a career night against Utah Valley where he logged a career-high seven saves. 

The honor is the first of his career and the first goalkeeper to earn the nod since Bryan Escalante was honored in 2012. 

The Titans return to action this Wednesday at Titan Stadium to host CSUN at 7 p.m.
