FULLERTON, Calif. – Garrett Losee's half volley from the top of the box in 67th minute was all the Cal State Fullerton men's soccer team needed in a 1-0 shutout of Santa Clara on Friday night at Titan Stadium.

 

Ian Ramos found Losee open at the top of the box, and the native of South Jordan, Utah, controlled the pass before propelling a half volley over the head of Bronco goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh.

 

For Losee, it was his second goal of the season as the Titans won their second straight and improved to 2-3-2 on the year. Santa Clara, currently ranked 10th in West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, suffered its second loss of the year at 4-2-1.

 

The goal was the first given up by Santa Clara in over 380 minutes of play as the Broncos has recorded four straight shutouts entering Friday night's game.

 

For Losee, it was his second goal of the year, which matches him for the team lead with Marc Fenelus and Julian Okai.

 

The Titans held a 10-4 edge in shots, while the teams combined for 33 fouls and five yellow cards.

 

The Titans also held a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Titan goalkeeper David Rodriguez Elias made one save recording his first shutout of the year.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Sunday, hosting Nebraska-Omaha at noon at Titan Stadium. Following the game, the Titans will be available for autogrpahs. In addition, the first 300 children – ages 8th grade and under – will receive FREE admission by wearing a soccer jersey.

 

Notes: Santa Clara leads the all-time series 11-7-2.
