CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – After two rounds at the 2018 Big West Conference Championships Tuesday afternoon at the City of Industry Golf Club, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team is tied for first place with UC Irvine at 7-under par 569.
The Titans shot on impressive 282 in round one to have lone control of first place before shooting a 287 in round two. UC Davis is four strokes behind Fullerton and UCI at 3-under par 573.
Fullerton is led by senior Martin Manalo who led the pack in a tie for first place with Brandon Bauman at 5-under par 139. Manalo shot a career-best score in the first round of the tournament with a 3-under par 69 and is far ahead of pace to record his career-best finish of 10th place.
Not far behind is Derek Castillo at 2-under par 142 to leave him tied for 6th place heading into the third and final round. Castillo moved up from tied for 13th place after shooting a 2-under par 70 following his score of even par 72 in round one.
Matt Wilson and Mark Cobey are tied for 11th place after shooting even par 144 after two rounds. Cobey started off the tournament with a 1-under par 71 beforing shooting a 1-over par 73 in the second round. Wilson finished day one with a 2-under par 70 but fell back a few strokes in the second round with a 2-over par 74.
Freshman Dalton Daniel is tied for 26th place heading into the third and final round of the conference championship at 4-over par 148. Daniel shot a 4-over par 76 in round two after finishing even par 72 in round one.
The Titans look to stave off UCI and the rest of the field to maintain first place to clinch the Big West Championship and a berth to the NCAA Tournament. Follow all the action of the final round on GolfStat.com.
