EL MACERO, Calif. – At the conclusion of the first round Friday afternoon, Cal State Fullerton men's golf sits in sixth place at the El Macero classic with a score of 16-over par 304. The Titans are just one stroke behind Texas Tech in fifth place.
Junior Matt Wilson carried over his strong play from the previous tournament as he is tied for 19th place with a 3-over par 75. Wilson is just six strokes behind the leader, Sam Meek from Nevada who is at 3-under par.
Dalton Daniel is just one stroke behind Wilson at 4-over par 76 to leave him tied for 26th place heading into round two of the tournament. Derek Castillo and Michael Sharkey are also tied for 26th place at 4-over par. Sharkey is competing in the tournament as an individual.
Markey Cobey is not far behind is trio of teammates in 26th place as he shot a 5-over par 75 on the first 18 holes to finish in a tie for 34th place. Martin Manalo is tied for 65th place with a score of 10-over par 80.
The University of Nevada leads the tournament after just one round with a 3-over par 291. Due to strong wind conditions throughout the morning many of the scores are higher than typical along with the student-athletes taking around 4:30-5 hours to complete the first round.
The Titans look to improve on their score in round two of the El Macero Classic Saturday with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. PT. Follow all the action on Golfstat.com.
