Titans Kick-Off Spring Schedule at Waves Challenge

FULLERTON, Calif. – After a long month off, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team eagerly returns to action with the Waves Challenge at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif. hosted by Pepperdine University Jan. 29-30.

Heading into the spring schedule the Titans have been picked by Golfweek.com to finish first in the Big West. Fullerton is ranked 81st in country by golfstat.com. The addition of transfer Derek Castillo is one reason for the Titans being picked to win the Big West as he is ranked 38th in the country according to golfstat.com based on average score.

Along with picking Fullerton to win the conference, Golfweek.com also has Castillo on the midseason all-conference team. Castillo has already captured a victory this season with a first place finish at the Bill Cullum Invitational in October.

The Course: Participants will play a total of 54 holes at the par-72 course checking in at 6,985 yards, completing 36 holes on day one and 18 on day two. Both rounds begin at 8 a.m. PT.  This is the first year of a tournament known as the Waves Challenge, but this is the 12th time the Waves have hosted an event at Saticoy Country Club.

The Field: The Titans are on of 15 teams competing at the Waves Challenge including Pepperdine, Boise State, Cal Poly, CSUN, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, Sacramento State, Seattle, South Dakota, Texas Rio Grande Valley, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara.

Last Time on the Green: Fullerton finished in 9th place out of 16 teams at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational in Hawai'i. Castillo and freshman Dalton Daniel took the top spot for the Titans individually, finishing tied for 23rd place with a 6-under par 210.
