William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Results
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Cal State Fullerton men's golf finished in ninth place out of 16 teams at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in New Mexico Saturday afternoon with a 24-over par 888.
The Titans were tied for fifth after round one with a 6-over par 294 but fell back to eighth at the end of day one after shooting an 11-over par 299 in round two. Fullerton improved on its score in the third and final round but it was not enough to keep pace with the rest of the field as they dropped one spot to finish ninth. BYU took first place in the tournament with a 9-over par 873.
First year transfer Derek Castillo led the Titans with his best collegiate score, finishing the tournament tied for seventh place even at par with a score of 216. Castillo had an impressive first round as he was tied for first place with a 4-under par 68. The sophomore then slipped in round two to fourth place after shooting a 3-over par 75. In the third and final round Castillo shot a 1-over par 73 to earn his seventh place tie.
Mark Cobey finished second individually for the Titans, shooting a 2-over par 74 in all three rounds of the collegiate to finish tied for 22nd with a total score of 6-over par 222. Matt Wilson finished the tournament with his best score in the third and final round, shooting a 1-over par 73. Wilson finished tied 45th with a 10-over par 226.
The Titans now have a few weeks off to regroup before they head to the Bill Cullum Invitational in Simi Valley on Oct. 16-Oct. 17.
