SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished eighth after the first round of competition at the Big West Men's Golf Championship held at Sandpiper Golf Course on Monday.
The Titans shot 12-over-par 300, while Cal Poly, Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara each fired a total first-round score of 282 (-6) to finish in a three-way tie for first place heading into Tuesday's second round of play.
Following the three-way tie, CSUN finished in fourth (-4, 284), followed by UC Riverside (E, 288), UC Irvine (+4, 292), UC Davis (+4, 292), the Titans and Hawai'i (+13, 301).
Sophomore Matt Wilson fired the best round of the day for Fullerton, shooting even par 72 and ending the day in a tie for 17th place.
Junior Mark Cobey shot 3-over-par-75 and is tied for 33rd on the leaderboard, while freshman Michael Sharkey followed shooting 76 (+4) to tie for 35th in the standings.
Freshman Ty Stites is tied for 37th on the leaderboard after shooting 5-over-par 77, along with senior Matt Murphy.
The Titans will return to action on Tuesday morning in Santa Barbara.
