FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team will participate in the 2017 Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship hosted by UC Santa Barbara beginning on Monday at the Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbra, California.
THE COURSE: Nine teams with five golfers on each squad will compete for the team and individual titles on the par-72 course that measures 7,093 yards at the Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara, Calif. Matt Wilson, Ty Stites, Mark Cobey, Michael Sharkey and Matt Murphy are scheduled to compete for the Titans. Fullerton stud Jack Ireland will not compete this weekend due to injury.
WHAT'S ON THE LINE: The winning team advances to the NCAA Division I men's regionals which are held at six sites this year from May 15-17. The six regional sites include The Grove, College Grove, Tennessee, hosted by Middle Tennessee State University; Kampen Course, West Lafayette, Indiana, hosted by Purdue University; Stanford Golf Course, Stanford, California, hosted by Stanford University; University of Texas Golf Club, Austin, Texas, hosted by University of Texas at Austin; University Club, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, hosted by LSU and Aldarra Golf Club, Sammamish, Washington, hosted by University of Washington.

IN THE RANKINGS: Following the completion of the season's 10 tournaments, Cal State Fullerton is ranked No. 144 in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings.
AT THE BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP:
• The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team has won two Big West Conference Men's Golf Championship titles, in 2013 and 2014, after the Titan program was reinstated for the 2009-10 season. In 2013, the Titans were co-Big West Champions with Pacific playing at Soboba Springs Country Club in San Jacinto, Calif., but Fullerton lost the automatic NCAA Regional bid in a playoff. In 2014, the Titans finished two strokes ahead of UC Davis at Soboba Springs Country Club to win their second conference title and first regional bid.
• Corey Gard finished the 2013 Big West Championship tied for first place as Fullerton's top finisher in program history at the tournament.
