STOCKTON, Calif. – Led by freshman Jack Ireland, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team is in a two-way tie for sixth after the first round of play at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Thursday at Stockton Golf and Country Club.

After 18 holes of action, the Titans are tied for sixth with Big West Conference foe CSUN, as CSF finished the first day with a score of 19-over-par 303.

Long Beach State currently leads the 16-team event with a score of 292 (+8) as the teams battled tough conditions with winds gusting at 15 miles per hour. Denver (297; +13), Sacramento State (299; +15), Pacific (299; +15) and UC Irvine (299; +15) round out the top five teams.

A native of Mission Viejo, Calif., Ireland is just four shots off the pace, tied for sixth after a first-round score of 2-over-par 73 on Thursday.

UC Irvine's David Kim is atop the leaderboard after a first round score of 69 (-2).

Following Ireland for the Titans includes senior Nico Mendoza and freshman Matt Wilson as each player shot a 76 (+5) in the first round, tying for 31st in the standings.

Tied for 49th with a score of 78 (+7) is sophomore Mark Cobey as junior Matt Murphy shot a first-round score of 79 (+8) on Thursday, placing him in 62nd on the leaderboard.

Play at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational resumes at 8:30 a.m. on Friday.
