Titans Finish Sixth at Southern Dunes

MARICOPA, Ariz. – In its second competition of the fall, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished sixth at the Southern Dunes Collegiate Invitational after the third and final round of play on Sunday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.

The Titans shot a 306 on Sunday to finish the tournament with a total score of 890.

Idaho won the team title with a total score of 4-under-par 860, followed by host Wyoming (865, +1), San Francisco (874, +10), Grand Canyon (876, +12), UC Riverside (886, +22), Cal State Fullerton (890, +26), Fort Lewis College (919, +55) and Pima Community College (933, +69).

Fullerton's top finisher was Jack Ireland as the rookie's three-round score of 3-over-par 219 tied for 15th. He shot a 78 (+6), in the third round on Sunday, dropping down seven spots in the standings from eighth.

Redshirt senior Mark Jensma and freshman Matt Wilson finished tied for 25th with identical marks of 225 (+9). Jensma shot a 79 (+7) in the third round and Wilson had a final round of 78 (+6).

With a third round of 74 (+2), Marcus Mercado-Kiel moved up from 44th to 35th in the standings to finish the tournament with a total score of 229 (+13).

Matt Murphy did not finish the tournament.

Arizona State's Nicolo Galletti won the individual title with a final score of 206 (-10).

The Titans return to action on Monday, Oct. 19, competing at the Bill Cullum Invitational hosted by CSUN at Wood Ranch Golf Course in Simi Valley, Calif.
