EL MACERO, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team completed play at the El Macero Classic in seventh place at El Macero Country Club on Saturday.
The Titans tallied a final score of 899 (+35) after firing a third round 16-over 304 to post back-to-back seventh place finishes this week which are season-bests. Tournament host UC Davis garnered the team championship logging a total score of 865 (+1). The Aggies shot a third round of 9-over 297, wrapping up the event 10-strokes ahead of the nearest competitor.
Fullerton sophomore Kyle De Silva improved from his day two total to climb 16 spots to finish 12th after carding a final round of 72 (E) en route to a total score of 221 (+5). The native of Orange, Calif. led the Titans with eight birdies over the 54-hole event.
UC Davis was followed by Sacramento State (+11, 875), Marquette (+11, 875), Utah Valley (+17, 881) and Nevada (+23, 887) to round out the top five teams.
The Aggies' Luke Vivolo (-10, 206) clinched individual medalist honors after leading the field on both the first and second day of play. Sacramento State's Taylor Knoll (-2, 214) and Cal Poly's Mitchell Martin (-1, 215) rounded out the top three on the individual leaderboard at El Macero.
Cal State Fullerton senior Ryan Tetrault was the other Titan in the top 25 placing 24th position after a 7-over 79 third round to post a three-round score of 8-over 224. Orange Coast College transfer Marcus Mercado-Kiel shot a 6-over 78 over the final 18-holes which was good for 30th position to chalk up a final tally of 225 (+9).
CSF sophomore Matt Murphy (+18, 234) finished in 48th with a third round of 79 (+7), while Nico Mendoza rounded out the Titans' contingency with a three-day total of 150, due to a second round mark that was not counted via ruling yesterday.
The Titans will now look ahead to the Big West Conference Championships at the SLO Country Club on April 26-28 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
