Cal State Fullerton Completes Play at Arizona Intercollegiate

FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team completed play at the Arizona Intercollegiate in 12th place at the Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., on Tuesday. Due to the lack of daylight during yesterday's second round, teams completed both the second and third round to conclude the 54-hole tournament.

The Titans tallied a final score of 877 (+25) after firing a final round of 4-under-par 280 and second round 14-over-par 298. No. 29 Arizona State walked away with the victory logging a score of 840 (-12), wrapping up the event over 10-strokes ahead of the nearest competitor.

The Sun Devils shot a final round of 7-under-par 277 to clinch the team title. ASU was followed by UTEP (-1, 851), McNeese State (+4, 856), No. 21 California (+5, 857) and No. 43 Iowa State (+5, 857) to round out the top-five. Arizona State's Max Rottluff used a second round 6-under-par 65 and 3-under-par 68 final round to garner the individual title at 10-under-par 203. UTEP's Martin Simonsen captured second (-6, 207), while a trio of golfers in New Mexico's Gavin Green, McNeese State's Robert Macintyre and California's Shotaro Ban carded a 4-under-par 209 to tie for third, respectively.

With a total score of 218 (+5), Cal State Fullerton's Ryan Tetrault paced the Titans for a tie in 27th place on the individual leaderboard. The senior carded identical second and third rounds at 70 (-1). Tetrault sunk seven birdies over the 54-holes.

Participating in his third event of the season for the Titans, Orange Coast College transfer Marcus Mercado-Kiel finished the tournament with an overall score of 222 (+9), collecting a final round of 2-under-par 69 after a second round 5-over-par 76. The Santa Ana, Calif., native fell into a tie for 50th position, but tied for a team-high five birdies in his final round.

Fullerton sophomore Matt Murphy posted a final round 2-over-par 73 after a second round 6-over-par 77, registering a tie for 54th place with an overall score of 10-over-par 223. Freshman Mark Cobey chipped in a total score of 224 (+11) after a second round 4-over-par 75 and team-best 3-under-par 68 in the final 18-holes. Cobey improved a whopping 13-strokes from his first round tally of 81 (+10), while concluding the two-day tournament in a tie for 59th place, carding five birdies overall.

Senior Josh Park completed the five-man Titan rotation firing a second round 81 (+10), followed by a third round 75 (+4). The Diamond Bar, Calif., native concluded the tournament in a tie for 69th place with a total score of 227 (+14).

The Titans will be back in action on Feb. 16-17 as they look to defend their first ever title at their host event, the Folino Invitational in City of Industry, Calif., at the Industry Hills Golf Course.
