FULLERTON, Calif.- The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished its first round of competition at the Arizona Intercollegiate in 13th place, later followed by suspension of the second round due to darkness at the Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., on Monday. The completion of the second round will commence at 7:30 a.m., followed by the final 18-holes tomorrow.
The Titans recorded a first round 299 (+15), and trails UTEP (-1, 283), Arizona State (+2, 286), California (+2, 286), New Mexico (+2, 286) and Iowa State (+3, 287) to round out the top-five squads.
Fullerton senior Josh Park shot a first round of 71 (E), garnering the highest finish for the team in 14th position.
New Mexico's Gavin Green and BYU's Jordan Rodgers headline the field posting an opening round 3-under-par 68, respectively, while at least 10 golfers are just two or less strokes behind.
Cal State Fullerton sophomore Matt Murphy led the Titans after shooting a first round 2-over-par 73 to finish in 30th place after the first day of competition. Close behind was Orange Coast College transfer Marcus Mercado who tallied an opening round 77 (+6). The junior from Santa Ana, Calif., recorded a 66th place mark in his first competition in Arizona.
CSF senior Ryan Tetrault posted a 78 (+7) over the first 18-holes, good for 70th place. Completing the five-man rotation in team competition, freshman Mark Cobey registered an 82nd place finish after a first round 10-over-par 81.
The completion of the second round followed by the final 18-holes of the Arizona Intercollegiate will wrap up tomorrow at the Sewailo Golf Club, a par-71, at 7:30 a.m.
