FULLERTON, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team completed play at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational in 17th place at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo., on Tuesday. Due to heavy rain and lightning during yesterday's second round, teams completed the second round this afternoon and the tournament was deemed to be final after 36-holes.


The Titans tallied a final score of 600 (+24) after firing a final round 15-over-par 303 on Tuesday afternoon. Tournament host Colorado walked away with the victory with a score of 556 (-20), wrapping up the event as the only team to finish with an overall score under-par by double digits while being 12-strokes ahead of the nearest competitor.


The Buffalos shot a final round of 8-under-par 280 to clinch the team title. Colorado was followed by San Diego (-8, 568), Denver (-7, 569), Missouri-Kansas City (-2, 574), Utah State (+3, 579) and Houston Baptist (+3, 579) to round out the top-five. Colorado's David Oraee used a 5-under-par 67 final round to garner the individual title at 13-under-par 131.


With a total score of 143 (-1), Cal State Fullerton's Kyle De Silva paced the Titans for a tie in 15th place. The sophomore carded a second and final round of 73 (+1), while sinking a team-high eight birdies over the 36-holes.

Fullerton senior Ryan Tetrault posted a final round 2-over-par 74, finishing tied for 39th place with an overall score of 4-over-par 148. Fellow CSF senior Josh Park chipped in a total score of 154 (+10) after a second round 4-over-par 76. Park concluded the two-day tournament in a tie for 74th place on the leaderboard.

 

Participating in his second event of the season for the Titans, Michael Choe finished the tournament with an overall score of 159 (+15), collecting a final round of 8-over-par 80. The Brea, Calif., native fell into a tie for 85th with teammate Mark Jensma who tallied a final round of 12-over par 84.


The Titans will be back in action on Oct. 19-20 when they travel to Simi Valley, Calif., to compete in the Bill Cullum Invitational at the Wood Ranch Golf Club. Fullerton will look to defend its crown after capturing the team title in last season's Bill Cullum Invitational on Oct. 21-22, 2013.
