Titans Complete First Round at Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational After Weather Delay

FULLERTON, Calif.- Plagued by a two-hour rain delay and the suspension of the second round, the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished its first day of competition in 14th place in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo., on Monday.

Play began on the links at 8:15 a.m., but was suspended at approximately 2:10 p.m. due to rain and lightening. After a two-hour delay, teams resumed competition at 4:15 p.m. Play was suspended once more at 5:15 p.m., followed by the official decision to suspend the second round at 5:45 p.m. The tournament and second round will continue tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. and will be deemed final as a 36-hole event.  

The Titans recorded a first round 297 (+9) and trail host Colorado (-12, 276), Missouri-Kansas City (-6, 282), Denver (-4, 284), San Diego (-1, 287) and Houston Baptist (-1, 287) to round out the top-five. Fullerton is currently six-strokes out of the top-10.

Carding a first round tally of 70 (-2), Cal State Fullerton's Kyle De Silva led the Titans for a tie in eighth place. De Silva sunk a team-high five birdies over the first 18-holes.

Colorado's David Oraee holds the lead in the individual standings at 8-under-par 64, followed by Missouri-Kansas City's Mitch Tucker (-7, 65) and Nebraska's Calvin Freeman (-4, 68) to round out the top-three golfers on the leaderboard.

Fullerton senior Ryan Tetrault shot a first round 74 (+2) to finish tied for 42nd place.

CSF junior Mark Jensma fired a first round 3-over-par 75, placing the Aliso Viejo, Calif., native in a tie for 54th in the standings. Senior Josh Park chalked up a first round 6-over-par 78, landing in a tie for 79th place after the first day of competition.

Participating in his second event of the season for the Titans, Michael Choe completed the five-man rotation, tallying a first round score of 79 (+7). The Brea, Calif., native wrapped up his afternoon in 84th place.
