Anguiano Paces Titans into Second After Day One of El Macero Classic

EL MACERO, Calif.- The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished its first day of competition in second place in the El Macero Classic at the El Macero Country Club in El Macero, Calif., on Friday. Fullerton's Mark Anguiano concludes the day in first place on the individual leaderboard.


The Titans shot 285 to finish 3-under-par after the first round of play. Heading into the final 36 holes, Fullerton is currently two strokes behind the leader.


After day one, the Titans are trailing overall leader UC Davis (-5, 283), while followed by Nevada (+5, 293), Sacramento State (+5, 293), Colorado State (+9, 297) and Grand Canyon (+9, 297) to round out the top-five.


With a total score of 65 (-7) through the first round, Cal State Fullerton senior Anguiano leads all players in the individual leaderboard. The Whittier, Calif., native marked his third total score of 65 this season, while inking his 15th round in the 60's.


Junior Ryan Tetrault also finished within the top-five, shooting a first round of one-under-par 71, tied for fourth place.


Senior Corey Gard followed tied for 14th in the standings after shooting a 73 (+1), eight strokes behind teammate Anguiano.


Freshman Kyle De Silva concluded the first round shooting a 4-over-par 76, tied for 33rd on the leaderboard.


Scott Rubzin
made his spring debut on the five-man rotation for team competition, firing a first round 10-over-par 82, to round out the Titans in 63rd place after the first day of competition.


The next 18 holes of the El Macero Classic will continue tomorrow at the El Macero Country Club, a par 72, at 10:30 a.m.
