FULLERTON, Calif.- The Cal State Fullerton men's golf team finished its first day of competition in fourth place in the Jones Invitational at the Saticoy Golf Club in Somis, Calif., on Monday.
The Titans shot 600 to finish 24-over-par after shooting both a first and second rounds of 300. Heading into the final 18 holes, Fullerton is currently 15 strokes behind the leader.
After two rounds, Southern California is in the lead with an overall score of 585 (+9), followed by San Diego State (+13, 589), San Diego (+16, 592), and Brigham Young (+24, 600).
With a total score of 143 (-1) through day one, Southern California's Anthony Paolucci and San Diego State's Riccardo Michelini top the individual leaderboard, followed by Xander Schauffele of San Diego State and Frederick Wedel of host Pepperdine with a mark of (+1, 145). Jordan Rodgers of Brigham Young round out the top-five with a day one score of (+2, 146).
Senior Corey Gard leads the Titans with a total score of 148 (+4). He is currently tied for eighth place in the standings while shooting a 6-over-par in the first round and a 2-under-par 70 in the second round.
Junior Ryan Tetrault shot a first round 72 (E), and second round 78 (+6) to finish tied for 16th place with an overall score of 6-over-par 150 after 36 holes. Senior Josh Park also finished the day in 16th with an overall score of 150 (+6) while shooting a first round 76 (+4) and second round 74 (+2). Folino Invitational individual champion Mark Anguiano finished the day tied for 23rdplace, firing a first round 2-over-par 74 and second round 6-over-par 78 to conclude the day with an overall score of 152 (+8).
Freshman Kyle De Silva rounds out the Titans with an overall score of 162 (+18), currently in 58th place.
