MBB Falls to UC Irvine in Big West Tournament Final

Anaheim, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fell to UC Irvine in the final of the Big West Tournament on Saturday night by a score of 92-64. It was a great run by the Titans to make the final but the Anteaters trailed for just 66 seconds and controlled the game throughout. UCI won the regular season title and the tournament.

With the score at 4-4, Max Hazzard reeled off three straight three-point field goals to extend the lead to 13-4 at the 16:21 and the Titans did not recover. At halftime, the Titans trailed 42-24 at the half and then second half began with an Anteater run that put the game away. Hazzard was named Big West Tournament MVP and finished the game with 23 points and Collin Welp chipped in 23off the bench as well.

Cal State Fullerton (16-17, 10-6) had four players in double-figures. Senior guard Kyle Allman, Jr. led the way with 16 points and a steal. Junior guard Austen Awosika had a line of 13 points, four rebounds, one assist and two steals. Sophomore forward Johnny Wang chipped in 10 points and five rebounds while junior forward Jackson Rowe tallied 11 points, five rebounds two assists, two blocks and a steal. Rowe became the 26th Titan in program history to score 1,000-career points.

Allman and senior guard Khalil Ahmad were named to the All-Tournament Team for the second straight year. 

Our postseason fate has yet to be determined and an announcement will be made in the near future.
