Men’s Basketball Falls at Saint Mary’s

Moraga, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fell at Saint Mary's on Monday night by a score of 81-66. The Gaels had four players in double-figures, led by Jordan Ford with 19 points and the team shot 54% from the field on the night. Fullerton had four student-athletes in double-figures as well with junior guard Austen Awosika leading the way with a career-high 19 points.

The Titans started the game strong and led for the first six minutes of the game but the Gaels took the lead at the 13:18 mark of the first half and did not relinquish it. SMC was 21-29 (72.4%) from the field in the first half and 10-13 (76.9%) from distance to lead by 21 at the break. They came back down to earth in the second half and finished the game at 53.7% from the field and 52.4% (11-21) from beyond the arc. Jordan Hunter posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tommy Kuhse also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 assists.

Awosika's career-high 19 points came on 9-14 shooting and he contributed four rebounds, five assists, one block and a steal in 36 minutes. Senior guards Kyle Allman, Jr. (14 points) and Khalil Ahmad (11 points) were in double figures as well along with junior forward Jackson Rowe who tallied 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.

 

Fullerton shot 49% (27-55) from the field, 56% (5-9) from three and 7-7 from the charity stripe. The Titans lost the rebounding battle, 30-25, but had 16 second-chance points to 11 for the Gaels.

Fullerton returns to the Bay Area on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT against San Francisco.
