Blue-Orange Scrimmage Returns

Blue-Orange Scrimmage Returns

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton men's basketball fans will have their first chance to watch the 2015-16 squad in action on Saturday, Oct. 24 as Titan Gym will host the annual Blue-Orange Scrimmage.

The doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and the scrimmage will begin at 11 a.m. as the Titans are scheduled to play four 10-minute quarters.

With four returners on the roster, fans will have a chance to take a glimpse at the newest Titans in action.

"We have a number of events planned this fall to interact with our fans and community," third-year head coach Dedrique Taylor said. "But the Blue-Orange Scrimmage is certainly what I am looking forward to. It will give our students, fans and community the opportunity to see a very different squad than last season with many new faces, and it will also give our student-athletes the chance to play in front of a crowd for the first time this year, which is always exciting after weeks of workouts and practices."

Redshirt guards Malcolm Brooks and Tre' Coggins are eligible to play this season after redshirting the 2015-16 campaign. The pair is expected to add vital scoring to the offense with the ability to shoot from long range. Brooks averaged 10.3 points per game and led Pepperdine during the 2014 season with 44 three-pointers, while Coggins averaged a team-leading 16.0 points per game, and was named to the all-Mountain West Conference third team in his sophomore (2013-14) season at Air Force.

Malcom Henderson is 100 percent healthy and the 6-foot-8 forward is expected to add some depth to Fullerton's front court along with returning starter Kennedy Esume and sophomore Jamar Akoh. Esume averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in Fullerton's final 15 games of the year.

Lionheart Leslie will join the backcourt along with returners Lanerryl Johnson and Sheldon Blackwell. Leslie led Blinn Junior College in scoring  (14.7 ppg), assists (5.7 apg) and steals (2.7 spg) as a sophomore last season. He was named second-team All-Region XIV Conference South Zone following a 23-9 record with the Buccaneers, and he is expected to compete for a starting role with the Titans at the point guard position.

The Titans have also added 6-foot-4 shooting guard Khalil Ahmad from Corona, Calif., and 6-foot-3 point guard Kyle Allman, Jr., from Queens, N.Y.
