Balanced Aggies Hold Off Titans

Josh Fox scored 18 points and four UC Davis teammates also were in double figures Thursday night as the Aggies held off Cal State Fullerton for a 75-69 Big West Conference victory.

The Aggies (19-4, 9-1) remained atop the Big West standings as well as unbeaten at home and won their third game in a row without the injured Corey Hawkins, the conference's leading scorer at 21.3 points per game.

Josh Gentry, Alex Harris and Lanerryl Johnson each scored 11 points to lead the Titans (9-15, 1-8).  Jordan Mason and Steve McClellan each added 8 points.

The Aggies won the game at the 3-point line.  The NCAA leaders had an average night, making 7 of 16 treys, but Fullerton made only 4 of 16 and three of those came in desperation time down the stretch.  Davis also made 28 of 39 free throws including 14 of 20 in the final 3 minutes.

Fullerton was 15 of 21 at the foul line.

Fullerton trailed only 51-47 with about 7 minutes to play before hitting a cold spell.  After one possession with two missed treys and finally a missed free throw, the Titans saw the Aggies score on four consecutive possessions.    Meanwhile, the Titans committed a turnover, missed a shot, made 1 of 2 free throws and then committed another turnover and it was 61-48 Aggies.

Fullerton got as close as 7 at 68-61 with a minute to play and lost by 6 after Jordan Mason scored at the buzzer.

Davis swept the Titans for the first time in conference play.  The Aggies won in Titan Gym, 79-68, on Jan. 17.

Fullerton travels to Honolulu for a Saturday night game at Hawai'i.
