Titans Extend Win Streak to Four with Win over Pioneers

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games as Jordan Mason led the Titans in scoring with 14 points off the bench in a 77-45 victory over Cal State East Bay at Titan Gym on Tuesday night.

 

The Titans are now 7-7 and have the chance to complete non-conference action over .500 with a win against Seattle on Saturday as the game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. from Titan Gym.

 

The Pioneers fall to 3-7 on the season.

 

Fullerton held Division II CSUEB to 45 points as the Pioneers shot just 28.8 percent (17-of-59) from the floor – both opponent season lows for the Titans.

 

Cal State Fullerton led by 29 points, 50-21, at the 13:54 mark of the second half as the advantage was part of a 30-2 run that started at the 7:43 mark of the first half.

 

Scoring in double figures for the Titans included Lanerryl Johnson with 12 points as the junior knocked down two three-pointers.  Steve McClellan added 10 points and five rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting while Alex Harris led the Titans with four assists while adding eight points.

 

Freshman Jamar Akoh matched a season high scoring seven points while also leading the Titans with seven rebounds.

 

Fullerton shot 45.3 percent (29-of-64) from the floor and held advantages in scoring in the paint (30-10), second-chance points (17-9) and bench scoring (45-17).

 

Cal State East Bay was led by Patrick Marr's 11-point effort as the Pioneers totaled seven three-pointers on the night but were outrebounded 48-32.

 

The Titans led 33-19 at the break after ending the half on a 13-0 run.

 

Harris and McClellan led Fullerton with six points apiece in the first 20 minutes.

 

Cal State East Bay drained five buckets from long distance in the first half shooting 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from the floor and committing six turnovers.

 

Cal State Fullerton ends its four-game homestand hosting Seattle at 6 p.m., Saturday at Titan Gym. The game will also mark the Titans final non-conference contest of the year.

 

Fullerton begins Big West Conference play at UC Riverside on Thursday, Jan. 8, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.
