Fullerton Stumbles at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – After scoring four runs in the first three innings the Titans were unable to keep up with San Diego State's pace, falling by a score of 8-4 Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Field.

After giving up a leadoff home run to San Diego State in the first inning, the Titans immediately responded in the top of the second. Max Miller came in to pinch-hit with two hits and recorded his first hit of the 2020 season on a RBI single to left field, scoring Josh Urps from second base. It is Miller's first hit and RBI as a Titan. 

The Aztecs took the lead back in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI single by Jacob Cruce to score Ryan Orr. Once again, the Titans responded with a run of their own in the top of the third inning to tie the game up at 2-2. Miguel Ortiz recorded his first collegiate hit and first collegiate RBI on a double to the gap in right-center, scoring Isaiah Garcia from second. In his debut game, Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. 

The Titans took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single up the middle by Zach Lew. Lew went 1-for-3 on the night with one RBI and two walks. Fullerton scored again in the fourth on a throwing error by the SDSU shortstop which brought home Demitri Colacchio

San Diego State scored two runs in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to extend the lead to 8-4. 

Michael Knorr started the game on the mound for the Titans and pitched four innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs. Landon Anderson stepped on the mound and recorded one out before being replaced by Dillon Brown

Cal State Fullerton has its home opener Friday at Goodwin Field against Tulane. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. PT.
