Monster Seventh Inning Leads to Fourth Consecutive Titans Victory

FULLERTON, Calif. – With a tie game against heading into the seventh inning Tuesday night at Goodwin Field, the Titans put up four runs in their half of the inning to seal its fourth consecutive win with a 9-3 victory over San Diego.

Chris Prescott wasn't going to let the Titans three game winning streak come to an end as he started of the seventh inning with a single before stealing second base. One batter later Ruben Cardenas drew a walk to runners on first and second.

Daniel Cope then did his part again to lay down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third with one out. The Titans then put in pinch hitter Jairus Richards after an intentional walk loaded the bases. Richards came through clutch with a single up the middle to score Prescott and Cardenas to give the Titans a 5-3 lead.

Fullerton didn't feel comfortable with a two-run lead. Mitchell Berryhill came in and hit a double up the middle to score Richards and Tyler Lasch to give the Titans a 7-3 lead heading into the eighth inning which they wouldn't relinquish.

The Titans added two more runs in the eighth for extra insurance on a throwing error by the catcher, allowing Cardenas and Cope to score.

Dillon Brown started the game on the mound for Fullerton and went two innings while giving up no hits and no earned runs with one strikeout. Joe Wills picked up his first win of the season after pitching 2.1 innings, giving up no runs and just four hits while striking out three batters.  

The Titans got off to a hot start, scoring two runs in the first inning of the game. Leadoff hitter Valenzuela got things going for the Titans, reaching on a single through the left side. The next batter, Prescott, was walked giving Fullerton two men on base with two outs.

Cardenas then reached on a fielding error by the shortstop to load the bases for the Titans. Catcher Daniel Cope then grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Valenzuela to score from third.

One batter later Lasch grounded out to first base, driving in Prescott from third base to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

Fullerton added one run in its half of the second inning to take an early 3-0 lead after Valenzuela recorded his second hit of the evening to score Brett Borgogno from second base. Borgogno started the inning off with single before stealing second.

San Diego wouldn't go away without a fight. The Toreros answered with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning on five hits.
