LOS ANGELES – Former Titan Chris Devenski is officially a World Series Champion, as his Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in Game 7 of the World Series, Wednesday evening at Dodger Stadium
Devenski becomes just the third Titan to become a World Series champion as a player to participate in the World Series. Colon won it in 2015, while Aaron Rowand helped guide the San Francisco Giants to a title in 2010 and the Chicago White Sox to a championship in 2005. He's also the seventh Titan to earn a World Series ring.
Former Titan J.D. Davis will be the eighth Titan to claim a World Series ring, as he was called up to the big leagues by the Astros on August 5th. He finished the regular season with the club, but did not make the postseason roster.
Devenski saw action in Game 7, as he entered the game and got Yasiel Puig to line out to first in the fifth inning. It got the Astros out of a critical jam when it looked like the Dodgers were reclaiming the momentum.
Justin Turner also played well, unfortunately in defeat. He went 1-for-2 from the plate, while being plunked at the dish twice. Turner came through with a base hit through the left side in the fifth to really get things going for the Dodgers. It came with one out and one on to put runners at first and second with just one out.
Overall Devenski pitched in 10 postseason games and compiled an ERA of 9.00 while striking out eight. He also earned a critical postseason victory in Game 2 of the World Series.
Turner batted .286 for the postseason, going 16-of-56 from the dish with two doubles, four homers and 14 RBI, including claiming NLCS MVP honors.
