Chapman Makes Major League Debut with Oakland Athletics

OAKLAND, Calif.--- Former Cal State Fullerton infielder Matt Chapman made his Major League Baseball debut for the Oakland Athletics on June 15, 2017, becoming the 63rd Titan in program history to make it to the bigs.

The Trabuco Canyon, California native was drafted by the Athletics as the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft.

Chapman's debut was an impactful one, as he got the start at third base and recorded two walks and scored a run in a dramatic 8-7 10 inning win over the New York Yankees. Another former Titan Khris Davis proved to be the hero in that game, delivering the game-winning base hit to centerfield with two outs in the bottom of the 10th.

The next day Chapman came through in a big way, with a base hit and three RBI, marking his first big league knock.

On June 17th, Chapman came through with his first multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 of his career with a double and a run scored. Through four games, the Athletics are a perfect 4-0 when Chapman is in the lineup.

Chapman spent three seasons at Cal State Fullerton from 2012 to 2014. He played in the 2013 Team USA Collegiate National Team and was named a First Team All-American in 2014.
