Vanderhook Concludes Week With National Team Development Program

CARY, N.C. – Cal State Fullerton baseball head coach Rick Vanderhook wrapped up his week working with the USA Baseball National Team Development Program (NTDP) after the 17U NTDP squad played a doubleheader against Chinese Taipei on Friday afternoon at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

Vanderhook, who completed his third season at the helm of the Titans in 2014, was selected to join the coaching staff of the 17U NTDP, which ran from August 11-15. He was part of a unit that included South Alabama head coach Mark Calvi, Appalachian State head coach Billy Jones and three-time USA Baseball alum, John Gall.

The 17U NTDP was split into two different squads; the Stars and the Stripes, with Vanderhook serving as manager for the Stripes team.

Eric Kibler led the coaching staff, serving as the field coordinator for both the 17U NTDP and 14U NTDP.  Kibler was the 2010 16U National Team manager, which went 9-0 to claim gold at the COPABE 'AA'/16U Pan American Games in Lagos De Moreno, Mexico.

USA Baseball assembled a group of former professional players as well as respected collegiate and high school coaches to guide the players during each weeklong event.

The National Team Development programs will be used to further connect identified athletes with USA Baseball staff to better prepare and develop the athletes for a future USA Baseball National Team experience. Two players from the 2014 17U NTDP will be invited to the 2015 18U National Team Trials and eight players will be invited to the 2015 USA Baseball Tournament of Stars, while two players from the 14U NTDP will be invited to attend the 2015 15U National Team Trials.
