Bickford Earns Spot On Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team

TUCSON, Ariz. – Cal State Fullerton right-hander Phil Bickford was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team, Collegiate Baseball announced Wednesday.

Bickford was selected as one of 27 starting pitchers on the team and one of two selections from the Big West Conference. The award comes a week after the Newbury Park native was named the 2014 Big West Conference Freshman Pitcher of the Year.

Last year, Thomas Eshelman and Justin Garza were each named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team with Eshelman earning Freshman Pitcher of the Year honors.

In 2014, Bickford appeared in 20 games, making 10 starts. He put together a 6-3 overall record with a 2.13 ERA, which ranked 10th in the Big West and 83rd in the nation. He struck out 74 batters in 76 innings of work while allowing just 13 walks on the season. Opponents hit just .232 against Bickford, who was the No. 10 overall selection in the 2013 MLB Draft.

Bickford ranked fourth in the conference and 23rd in the nation with a 5.69 strikeout-to-walk ratio and was part of a Titans pitching staff that ranked No. 1 in the nation in that category. The right-hander also average 8.76 strikeouts per nine innings, ranking fourth in the conference and 70th in the country.
