FULLERTON, Calif. – J.D. Davis' single to right field in the 13th inning lifted No. 9 Cal State Fullerton to a thrilling 6-5 walk-off victory over Saint Mary's Friday night at Goodwin Field.

The victory snapped the Titans (9-6) three-game losing streak and was their first win in extra innings in four attempts this season. The Gaels (7-9) dropped their second straight game.

The Titans fell behind 5-4 in the top of the 13th inning after the Gaels touched up reliever Koby Gauna for three hits, including an RBI double by catcher Trevor Ellison, who came in as a substitution in the 10th.

But the Titans rallied in their half of the frame with catcher Jared Deacon, who also entered as a sub in the ninth inning, drawing a one-out walk. Austin Diemer followed with a line drive single to left and, after Clay Williamson flied out to left, Matt Chapman got aboard after getting drilled with a fastball. Davis then came up and guided a single to the opposite field, plating Deacon with the tying run and Diemer with the game-winner to give the Titans the win.

Davis finished the game 4-for-5 with two walks, two RBIs and a run scored. Diemer was 3-for-7 with a pair of runs scored and Timmy Richards was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs for the Titans.

Gauna picked up the victory for the Titans, his first of the season, after pitching four innings in relief. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out three.

Thomas Eshelman drew the start for the Titans and went nine innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits. He set a new career high with nine strikeouts on the night while collecting a no-decision.

For the Gaels, Anthony Gonsolin drew the loss after pitching five and one-third innings in relief. He allowed two runs on four hits, walked four and struck out two.

With the game knotted 1-1, the Titans took the lead in the fourth inning after Davis and Greg Velazquez both walked to lead off the inning. Niko Pacheco sacrificed them into scoring position and Richards came up and cashed them in with a two-run single to right field to put the Titans up 3-1.

It was 4-2 in the top of the seventh and that's when the Gaels got some offense going againstEshelman, getting three straight singles to lead off the frame to plate one run and make it 4-3. Gonsolin then tied the game with an RBI groundout to second base.

The two teams will meet again Saturday when Grahamm Wiest takes the mound for the Titans while the Gaels counter with right-hander Cameron Neff. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Notes: This was the first meeting between Cal State Fullerton and Saint Mary's since Feb. 5, 1987.
