FULLERTON, Calif. - Coming off the 2020 spring semester, Titans Athletics had the best academic semester ever with a cumulative GPA of 3.32. Student-Athletes who are flourishing away from their field of play will continued to be honored through Student Spotlight. This week's honoree is women's cross country and track and field athlete, Trinity Ruelas.

A natvie of San Dimas and a Bishop Amat graduate, Ruelas became a Titan in the fall of 2017. She is double majoring in dance and communications with an emphasis in public relations and boasts a 2.98 GPA.

She attends CSUF Dance Association meetings to bond with her classmates and be involved in the program. She plans to work towards becoming a school counselor for either a performing arts high school or university after graduation.

She is very passionate about mental health awareness as well as diversity in athletics and the dance world. Ruelas herself is 75% Mexican American and 25% Native American as part of the Ohkay Owingeh tribe.

Ruelas has had a very successful running career thus far at Fullerton as she holds the indoor 3K school record and outdoor 5K school record. She was an All-Big West Cross Country honoree as she helped lead the team to the 2019 Big West Championship.

The honorees are chosen by the Athletics Academics Services staff. For example, a student-athlete that is also tutor or a member of a leadership committee would be things that could could help an athlete garner the recognition. Titans student-athletes remain busy with their sport responsibilities but still find ways to thrive in the classroom as well as impact the community.
