Men's 8k/Women's 5k Results
FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton's Chris Martinez and Lauren Carr paced the men's and women's cross country teams at the Titan Invitational on Friday evening. The Cal Poly Pomona men and UCLA women clinched the team titles, respectively, at the campus of Cal State Fullerton.
The Titan men nor women entered enough participants into the collegiate competition, thus neither team placed in the team standings.
The Cal Poly Pomona men were led by third place finisher Mark Huizar who crossed the line at 24:44.0, followed closely behind by Bronco teammate John Dominguez in fourth at 24.44.4 UCLA's Jordan Senko garnered the top time among collegians, setting a mark of 24:43.7. Cal Poly Pomona collected a dominating 1-2-6-7-8 for 24 points to clinch the title. The Broncos posted six runners within the top-15 finishers.
UCLA's Jen Owen led the Bruins at the top of the women's standings, earning runner-up in the 5k race posting a mark of 18.04.1. Owen was the top finisher among collegiate runners, but New Balance SV's Courtney Heiner (18:03.8) concluded the event with the top time.
Fullerton junior Chris Martinez finished 48th overall at 26:28.4 and was followed by junior Donald Bernard in 52nd with a time of 26:40.2 on the 8k course. Freshman Tanner Love rounded out the top-three CSF scorers at 28:31.1, good for 89th place overall.
"Chris Martinez did a good job to lead us as himself and other runners got a chance to hit the course prior to conference championships," said head coach John Elders.
The Titans' Lauren Carr finished in 37th place overall in 19.35.1 to lead the women's side on the 5k course. Sophomore Amanda Crissinger was the next Titan runner with a finish in 50th overall with a time of 20:13.0. Anaheim, Calif., native Michelle Botello rounded out the top-three Fullerton participants concluding the invite in 54th while carding a time of 20:28.7.
"The meet served as a special moment of competition for some of our student-athletes who are near to the conclusion of their seasons, while Lauren Carr on the women's side ran a solid race for us," stated Elders.
The Titans will now compete at the coveted Big West Championships in Riverside, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 1. Fullerton will make its second appearance of the season on the Ag/Ops Course after previously participating in the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 18. It will be the sixth time in the last eight seasons that UC Riverside has hosted the league meet. Last season in San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly swept the men's and women's championship.
