FULLERTON, Calif. – With the women coming off a fifth place finish and the men a sixth place finish at the Big West Championships during the 2013 campaign, the Titans now look ahead to a new season, it was announced by Head Coach John Elders on Friday afternoon.

Cal State Fullerton's schedule features six invitational events before the Big West Championships and NCAA Regionals. The 2014 season is highlighted by three meets, two of which are hosted by the Titans, the Mark Covert Classic and the Titan Invitational. Fullerton will also make a trip to Kansas to participate in the Rim Rock Classic, marking the first appearance for the Titans in the history of the event.

"I'm looking forward to the 2014 schedule from top to bottom. It will be interesting to see our progress from the early season invitational meets to when we finally reach the conference championship," said Elders. "I'm excited about the potential that both teams possess and I'm looking forward to a great season for the Titan harriers."

The Titans will begin their season in Brea, Calif., at the Mark Covert Classic on Aug. 30. The Fullerton-hosted event enters its 29th year and honors two-time national champion and Cal State Fullerton's first Division II All-American, Mark Covert. The legendary distance runner led the Titans to the NCAA team title in 1971 while being world renowned for his American record for most consecutive days running at least a mile from July 23, 1968 and ending 45 years later on the identical date in 2013. Fullerton has clinched the title on four different occasions, with the Titans last hoisting the championship during the 2008 season.

CSF will then compete in the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 13.

"Both squads will run the same course at the championship distances at the UCR Invite while we'll be looking to build on our performance at the Mark Covert Classic," added Elders.

Following the Coyote Classic on Sept. 27 in San Bernardino, Calif., the Titans will leave the state of California to showcase their talent at the Rim Rock Farm Classic in Lawrence, Kan., on Oct. 4. In addition to having two covered bridges as part of the historic route, dispersed throughout the course are silhouette statues, specific hills, turns and landmarks in representation of notable Kansas alumni, making the course one of the most unique across the country.

"Traveling to Lawrence, Kan., to compete on the historic Rim Rock Farms course will be a first for our program and will be a great experience for all of our student-athletes," stated Elders.

The Titans will then return to Riverside, Calif., for the second occasion to compete in the Highlander Invitational on Oct. 18 before closing out the regular season with the Titan Invitational on Oct. 24, which starts and ends at the Titan Track Complex.

The Big West Championships on Nov. 1 returns to the flat and fast UC Riverside course after being contested at the higher difficulty Cal Poly course last season. UCR will host the event for the seventh time over the past decade, with Cal Poly garnering the title in all but one of those campaigns.

Beyond the conference championship, Fullerton will have the opportunity to participate at the NCAA West Regionals in Stanford, Calif., on Nov. 14 before the NCAA Championships take place on Nov. 22 in storied Terre Haute, Ind., which has become the conclusion to the Division I cross country season in nine of the past 10 years.
