Boardingham Breaks Record on Day One

Boardingham Breaks Record on Day One

AUSTIN, Texas. --- Freshman Naiah Boardingham set a new Cal State Fullerton record in the long jump as the Titans began the first day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

The Los Angeles native recorded a mark of 20'3.75" (6.19m) to best her previous school record of 20'.25" (6.10m) set at the Fresno State Invitational on April 30. Despite her record mark, Boardingham did not advance to Eugene, placing 18th as the top 12 jumpers will move on to the NCAA Championships.

Junior and Big West Champion Bryn Williamson placed 36th in the pole vault with a mark of 12'11.5", short of her personal best.

Senior Trevor Gorwin failed to advance in the hammer throw as his mark of 185'3" was short of the school record (202'10") he set earlier this spring.

Sophomore Deigo Courbis fell just short of advancing to the quarterfinals in the 400-meter hurdles as he finished 30th in a time of 52.42 with the top 24 student-athletes moving on to the next round.

In a time of 56.42, freshman Kiana Clay placed 44th in the women's 400 meters, while two-time defending Big West champion Darion Zimmerman placed 37th in the men's 400 meters in a time of 47.66.

Scheduled to compete on Friday for the Titans is Gorwin in the men's shot put, while Saturday will feature Anthony Applequist in the men's triple jump, Laura Hamann and Ty'Jalayah Robertson in the women's triple jump and Mason Rollins, Thaddeus Smith, Luis Matos and Zimmerman in the men's 4x100-meter relay.
