Big West Championships Live Results

FULLERTON, Calif. – Four members of the Cal State Fullerton track and field team will head to Riverside, Calif. on Friday and Saturday for the multi-events weekend of the Big West Championships, while the rest of the squad heads to Eagle Rock, Calif. on Saturday to take part in the OXY Invitational on the campus of Occidental College.

Bubba Ostrowski, Taylor Frank, Ifunanya Gwacham and Nicolette Garcia will head to the campus of UC Riverside to kick off the first weekend of the Big West Championships.  Ostrowski will compete in the decathlon while Frank, Ifunanya, and Garcia will all take part in the heptathlon.

Frank broke the Fullerton school record in the heptathlon at the UC Track Facility in March by racking up 4,672 points and shattering the previous record of 4,508 points, previously held by 2003's Lacy Welborn.  The senior set personal-best's in the javelin throw (119'3") and the 100-meter hurdles (14.73 seconds) en route to her fourth-place finish overall at the UCR Spring Classic.

Gwacham (3,868 points) and Garcia (3,713 points) also competed in the heptathlon competition at the UCR Spring Classic, finishing 12th and 13th place, respectively.

While the four multi-event competitors finish up action in Riverside on Saturday, the rest of the CSF track team will be competing in the OXY Invite to round out the regular season on Saturday.  Twelve women and nine men will make the trip to Eagle Rock, Calif. to take part in the sprinting and mid-distance running events.

Tejera Dial will look for a second-consecutive win in the 800-meter run after taking home first place at the CSUN Challenge a week ago with a time of 2:10.67 seconds.  Ruby Rodriguez will be joining Dial in the 800m while Emily Taylor and Arianna Fuentes will round out the distance events in the 1,500m run and 3,000m steeplechase, respectively.

Tyler Hardge
will also look for back-to-back first-place finishes this week in the 400m hurdles after winning the event in Northridge.  India Owens and Deena Pierce will join Hardge in the event in Eagle Rock.

After a week off, Janaya Shorty will be back on the track participating in the 200m dash and 400m runs.  Darnisha Loftis-McKnight, Alexandria Stewart and Alexis Stewart will all compete with Shorty in the 200m dash while Morgan Thompson will join the sophomore in the 400m run on Saturday.

The men will look to end the regular season on a high note as they head into the OXY Invite as it will be their final chance to gear up for the Big West Championships at UC Riverside Track Facility on May 15-16.  The 100m dash will have the largest contingent of Titans competing as Joshua Gordon will join Chaz Harmon, Mason Rollins, Taylor Ros and Malek Walls.

Harmon, Rollins and Ros will also lace up for the 200m dash, while senior Shelby Hernandez Jr. will vie for the top spot in the 800m run.  Mason Guzman-Sanchez (110m hurdles), Torry Moline and Nick Reynolds (400m hurdles) will round out the nine Titan men competing on Saturday.

The Big West Championships multi events will get underway at 1:00 p.m. with the women's heptathlon and at 1:30 p.m. for the men's decathlon.  The events will pick up on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. for the decathlon and 1:00 p.m. for the heptathlon.

The OXY Invite will kick off for the Titans at 2:30 p.m. with Pierce competing in the 100m hurdles and end at 8:10 p.m. with Fuentes in the 3,000m steeplechase.
