WESTWOOD, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's and women's track and field team completed action at the two-day UCLA Legends Invitational that began on Friday afternoon and finished Saturday night in Westwood, Calif.

The Titans ended the weekend with multiple personal-best finishes and a standout first-place performance from senior Steven Williams in the high jump competition.  Williams won the event with a jump of 6-feet-11 inches, a personal-best for the Downey, Calif. native and is also one of the top jumps in the Big West Conference this season.  It was Williams' second-consecutive first-place finish in as many meets, taking home the top prize in the same event at the UC Riverside Spring Classic on Mar. 28.

Friday Recap

The distance runners set the tone early for the Titan track and field squad on the first day at UCLA by finishing in the top-five of the standings in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase as well as the men and women's 5000m run.  Tim Reed took home second-place overall in the 3000m steeplechase, setting a personal-best by nearly 16 seconds after crossing the finish line in 9:23.10 seconds. 

Huntington Beach, Calif. native Emily Taylor was also took home a top-five finish while posting a personal-best time in the 5000m run of 17:36.57 sec.  Sophomore David Ramirez kept the momentum alive in the men's side of the 5000m run, finishing in fourth place with a personal-best time of 14:46.95 sec.  Ramirez dropped more than 10 sec. from his time in the event at the Ben Brown Invitational on Mar. 14 in Fullerton, Calif.

Runners

The Titan women dealt with a couple key injuries in the final day of competition at UCLA as Janaya Shorty and Morgan Thompson did not compete for precautionary reasons.  Tyler Hardge stepped up and took home a third-place finish in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.06 sec.  Senior Tejera Dial continued her steady performances in the 800m run, posting a time of 2:10.46 sec. for a second-place finish.

Nick Sole and Malek Walls were top-five finishers in the 100m dash for the Titan men on Saturday, finishing with times of 10.82 sec. and 10.85 sec., respectively.  Joshua Gordon also ran a solid race in the 200m dash, taking home second place after crossing the finish line in 21.72 sec.

Jumpers

Williams had the best finish of the day for any Titan man or women over the weekend at UCLA after finishing first place in the high jump while also setting a new personal-best jump.  The senior wasn't the only Titan jumper standout over the weekend, Jonathan Tolentino finished with a season-best distance in the triple jump with a distance of 13.93m.

Throwers

Last week's Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week nominee from a week Daniel Walker took home another top-five finish in the javelin a week after posting a personal-best throw at the UC Riverside Spring Classic.  Walker posted a throw of 185-feet-4 inches at the UCLA Legends Invite, good enough for second-place overall.

The Titans are back at Titan Track Complex for the final time in 2015 as they host the annual Big West Challenge on Apr. 10 with events beginning at 2:30 p.m. in Fullerton, Calif.
