Titans Travel to Riverside to Compete in UCR Spring Track Classic

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men's and women's outdoor track and field team continues the 2015 season at the University of California, Riverside Spring Track Classic starting on Thursday and finishing on Saturday at UCR's Track and Field Stadium in Riverside, Calif.

Fullerton will join Big West Conference foes CSUN, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara and the host UC Riverside at the three-day meet, along with competitors from outside the Big West in Cornell University, North Dakota State, Southern Utah, Wyoming, Northern Colorado, Utah State and Oregon State.

The second-annual Spring Track Classic at UC Riverside Track and Field Stadium will be the first three-day meet for the Titans this season, as the multi-event's get underway on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.  The combined events will finish up on Friday, starting at 11:00 a.m. The men and women's hammer throw competition will end the second day of competition at 3:00 p.m. to round out the afternoon.

The reigning Big West Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, Jessica Flores, will look to continue to improve on her impressive start to 2015, after setting the Fullerton school record in the hammer throw at the UNLV Spring Invitational with a throw of 196-feet-5 inches.  The junior shattered her previous personal-best throw by over 22-feet and sits atop the rankings of the Big West Conference in the women's hammer throw.

Flores wasn't the only standout for the Titan throwers in their last meet in Las Vegas, Nev., freshman Trevor Gorwin posted personal-best throw's in both the shot put (54'11. 5") and the hammer throw (170'11'') and will look to rise up the standings in Riverside.

The rest of the Titans throwers, jumpers, sprinters and distance runners will begin competition on Saturday with the shot put event at 10:00 a.m. before the 1600-meter relay ends the meet at 6:00 p.m. 

The Titan runners will enter the UC Riverside Spring Track Classic with momentum after earning two first-place finishes at the UNLV Spring Invite courtesy of senior's Taylor Ros and Tejera Dial.  Ros took home first prize in the 400m with a season-best finish of 47.86 seconds and Dial finished ahead of the field in the 800m run with a personal-best finish of 2:10.23 sec.

The Titan jumping corps are also coming off impressive finishes in their last meet as Malik Johnson will look to make it two-consecutive first-place finishes in the high jump after taking home the top spot in Las Vegas, clearing 2.05 meters.  Ty'Jalayah Robertson and Laura Hamann will also look to keep their strong starts to the outdoor season alive in Riverside in the high jump and long jump, respectively.

The UC Riverside Spring Invitational will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, 10:00 a.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at UCR Track and Field Stadium in Riverside, Calif.
