FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men and women's track and field team opened up the annual Ben Brown Invitational at Titan Track Complex on Friday afternoon with the men and women throwers as the only group of student-athletes participating in both the hammer throw and javelin events.

The men's hammer throw was the first competition of the morning for all teams involved in the Ben Brown Invite in Fullerton, Calif.  Steven Parsons was the top finisher for the Titans in the event with an 11th place finish after a throw of 51.53 meters in his third attempt.  Trevor Gorwin, one week after being nominated for Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week, finished just behind Parsons in 12th place with a throw of 50.80m on his second attempt of the day.

The men's javelin competition and the women's hammer throw competition were the next two events to get underway at Titan Track Complex. Daniel Walker took home the first top-ten finish of the day for the Titans with a personal-best throw in his first meet action of the season.  On his second attempt of the afternoon, Walker posted a throw of 56.26m that held up the next two rounds of attempts as seventh best in the event.  Kenneth Callinan finished in 14th with a throw of 45.46m on his first attempt.

The women's hammer competition was arguably the best of the day for the Titans squad with a trio of top-ten finishers.  Jessica Flores, Amanda Mercado and Alexandra Kemp finished 6th, 7th, and 8th, respectively.  Flores posted a throw of (PR) 52.80m, a first attempt throw of 52.17 was Mercado's best of the day, and Kemp finished with a throw of (PR) 51.80m.  Catherine Craig also threw a personal best 43.41m on Friday.
