Titans Begin Season at RCC Open

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton men and women's outdoor track and field begin their 2015 campaign on Saturday in Riverside, Calif. as 28 Titan men and 27 Titan women will participate in the Riverside Community College Open.

Fullerton will join Big West Conference foe UC Riverside in the three-team meet hosted by Riverside Community College as field events get underway at 1:00 p.m. with the men's and women's long jump and pole vault. Track events will also begin at 1:00 p.m. in Riverside with the women's 4x100m relay to kick off the action.

The Fullerton men will be vying for the top spot in 18 different events on Saturday afternoon while the women will be competing in 14 events. The Titan women are coming off a very successful indoor track and field season that saw multiple school records broken, with Tejera Dial and Taylor Frank breaking their own records twice throughout 2015 in the 800-meter run and Pentathlon, respectively.

The Titan outdoor track and field teams have a strong contingent of returners ready to build on their personal successes last season. The returning trio of Janaya Shorty, Deena Pierce and Alexandria Stewart look to lead the new crop of Titan sprinters and hurdlers into the new season, as Taylor Ros looks to do the same on the men's side just a year removed from a third-place finish in the 400-meters at the Big West Championships. Tejera Dial and Anna Valdovinos head up the charge for the distance runners, while Amanda Mercado, Taylor Frank and Kenneth Callinan will look to set the example for the throwers after a strong 2014 campaign.
