FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton Track and Field program will be represented by five Titans in five different events at the NCAA West Regional Championships this Thursday-Saturday (May 29-31) at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Fullerton standouts Katie Wilson, Ashley Sims, Deena Pierce, Janaya Shorty, and Alexandria Stewart all qualified for NCAA Regional action after finishing within the top 48 in the western region in their respective events.
Action will get underway Thursday with the women's javelin throw at 10 a.m. PT on Thursday, but the first Titan won't compete until 3 p.m. PT Thursday, when Pierce takes part in the women's 400-meter hurdles. The Titans will continue action on Thursday at 4:55 p.m. PT when Sims competes in the 100-meter dash and wrap up competition after Wilson runs the women's 400-meter dash, which will begin at 5:45 p.m. PT.
Fullerton will return to action on Friday at 6:25 p.m. PT for just the women's 200-meter dash, which will be ran by Sims and Shorty. The Titans finish the meet on Saturday at 4:15 p.m. PT with the women's 4x100m relay, as a team comprised of Wilson, Sims, Shorty, and Stewart are scheduled to run.
The best 16 marks, after tiebreakers, will qualify from the first round of three preliminary attempts to the final round of three tries. The top 12 will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 11-14.

Katie Wilson
400-meter dash: Friday, May 30, 2014 @ 4:15 p.m. PT
4x100m Relay: Saturday, May 31, 2014 @ 4:15 p.m. PT
Wilson will represent the Titans in the women's 400-meter dash. She qualified for the West Regionals after posting a time of 53.64 at the Big West Championships and will enter the competition ranked 36th. At the 2013 West Regionals, Wilson placed seventh in her respective heat and 40th overall after recording a time of 55.45.
Ashley Sims
100-meter dash: Friday, May 30, 2014 @ 3:55 p.m.
200-meter dash: Saturday, May 31, 2014 @ 6:25 p.m.
4x100m Relay: Saturday, May 31, 2014 @ 4:15 p.m. PT
Sims qualified for both the 100 and 200-meter dash, thanks to her season best times of 11.76 and 23.91, respectively. The senior sprinter had ran her season-best time in the 100-meter dash last weekend at the Big West Championships and is ranked 69th in the NCAA West Region, while her 200-meter dash (23.91) mark was set on May 3 at the Steve Scott Invitational where she placed fourth.
The Granada Hills, Calif., native competed last year in the 200-meter dash at the West Regionals. After waiting through weather delays, Sims finished sixth in her heat and 42nd overall, running a time of 24.67.
Janaya Shorty
200-meter dash: Saturday, May 31, 2014 @ 6:25 p.m.
4x100m Relay: Saturday, May 31, 2014 @ 4:15 p.m. PT
The Victorville, Calif., native qualified, thanks to her personal best time of 23.86 last weekend at the Big West Championships. Her time ends up being ranked 64th in the NCAA West Region and the fourth fastest in the Big West.
Alexandria Stewart
4x100m Relay: Saturday, May 31, 2014 @ 4:15 p.m. PT
Stewart has been a force for the Titans all season in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash, as well as a key contributor on the relay teams. She will help guide the Titans in the 4x100m relay race to another first place finish like last weekend at the Big West Championships.
Deena Pierce
400-meter Hurdles: Friday, May 30, 2014 @ 3 p.m. PT
Pierce is set to compete in the 400-meter hurdles for the second consecutive year. At last season's regional she placed fourth in her heat and 42nd overall (1:01.99), while this year she enters the hurdles with a qualifying time of 1:00.09.
