OXY Invitational

Meet Information and Schedule

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton track and field team gets the Big West Championships underway this weekend with the heptathlon and decathlon, while also competing in its final tune-up meet before the Big West Championships, as the Titans will compete at the OXY Invitational this weekend in Eagle Rock, Calif.

The Big West Combined Events Championship will take place in Davis, Calif., on Friday and Saturday and will feature three Titans. Juniors Taylor Frank and Nicolette Garcia will represent Fullerton in the heptathlon, while junior Alexander Ostrowski will compete in the decathlon on the men's side.

The heptathlon will begin on Friday with the 100-meter hurdles and will continue with the high jump, shot put, and 200-meter dash. The long jump, javelin, and 800m will take place on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start. The first five events of the decathlon (100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m) are schedule to begin on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday's action will start at 11 a.m. with the discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500m.

The OXY Invitational is hosted by Occidental College and will begin with the men's shot put at 11 a.m. Both Steven Parsons and JaQuan Scott will represent Fullerton in that event. Parsons posted a season-best throw of 46-00.50 at the Bryan Clay Invitational a few weeks back, while Scott tossed a personal best 47-11.00 at the UC Riverside Invitational earlier in the season.

The day will wrap up with the men's 5000-meter run at approximately 9:20 p.m. However, the final event the Titans will compete in will be the women's 3000-meter steeplechase at approximately 8:10 p.m. Arianna Fuentes will represent the Titans in this event, as she looks to top her season-best time of 10:38.21 she set at the Big West Championships on April 11.

A Look Back at Last Weekend's Steve Scott Invitational

The Titans had multiple student-athletes set personal bests at last weekend's Steve Scott Invite in Irvine, Calif.

Senior Ashley Sims ran a season-best 23.91 and placed fourth in the 200-meter dash, while fellow senior Katie Wilson won the 400-meter with a season-best time of 53.85. The Titans also saw a great performance from freshman Janaya Shortly in the 200-meter with a personal best 24.20.

Off the track, Jasmyne Davis set a personal best in the triple jump with a mark of 39-09.25 and freshman Ty'Jalayah Robertson collected a new personal best with a first place finish in the high jump of 5-07.00.

On the men's side, junior Taylor Ros ran a personal best 47.91 to win the 400-meter dash, while freshman Shelby Hernandez Jr. recorded a personal record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.50.

Steven Parsons (170-00) and Alexandria Kemp (164-08) highlighted things for Fullerton's field athletes, as each recorded personal bests in the hammer throw and finished fourth and eighth, respectively.

2013 OXY Invitational and Big West Combined Events Championships
