Fullerton, Calif. - The Cal State Fullerton women's indoor track and field team is set to kick off the 2019 indoor season at the Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational this weekend at the Albuquerque Convention Center, hosted by the University of New Mexico. Competition begins on Friday at 3:30 p.m. PT and on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. PT.

Along with the Lobos, who are ranked ninth in the country by the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA), the Titans will compete against other top teams in the western part of the country.

From the 2018 indoor season, three Titans return to this year's squad that posted top-25 marks in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) last year. Sophomore Iesha Hamm set a school record in the women's high jump at 5-10.5 (1.79m), the fifth-best mark in the conference for the year. She went on to take fourth place in the event at the MPSF Championships. Hamm also set the No. 24 ranked pentathlon mark as she scored 2,700 points in the 2018 UW Invitational.

Shelby Noble set a school record last season as well with her pole vault clearance of 12-5.5 (3.80m), the No. 16 mark in the MPSF for the year. In addition, senior Onyx Gaston's triple jump mark of 37-5.75 (11.42m) was No. 23 in the league.

Two additional school records were set in 2018 by Samantha Huerta (mile, 4:54.55) and Wendi Leos (5K, 17:40.72).

As the 2019 season gets underway, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders enters his 31st season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton. Cal State Fullerton won the 2017 Big West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the first conference title in program history, then repeated that feat in 2018 to become back-to-back champions.
