MPSF Meet Records
FULLERTON, Calif. --- The Cal State Fullerton women's indoor track and field team will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships for the fourth-straight season at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor, Friday and Saturday.
MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS FIELD: The 2017 MPSF Championship features 20 universities comprised from members of the Pac-12, Big West, and West Coast Conferences. A total of 35 teams will compete for a conference title, 20 for the women and 15 for the men. Joining the MPSF for the first time will be the men and women from UC Riverside.
Participants: Arizona (M/W), Arizona State (M/W), BYU (M/W), Cal State Fullerton (W), CSUN (M/W), California (M/W), Colorado (M/W), Hawai'i (W), Long Beach State (M/W), Oregon (M/W), Oregon State (W), Portland (M/W), Stanford (M/W), UC Irvine (W), UC Riverside (M/W), UCLA (M/W), USC (M/W), Utah (W), Washington (M/W), Washington State (M/W).
MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS SCHEDULE: Friday begins at noon with the women's weight throw and concludes at 7:25 p.m. with the men's distance medley relay. The first event Saturday takes off at 10:30 a.m. with the men's heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. The men's 4 X 400 meter relay will end this year's championship meet at 2:40 p.m.
MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS HISTORY: In 2016, the Oregon women took back the conference crown after a two-year run by USC. The Ducks proceeded to win their sixth national title in the last seven years. The Oregon men have won the last three NCAA Championships, though USC won its first MPSF title last year. The 2017 NCAA Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be contested March 10 and 11, at Gilliam Indoor Track in College Station, Texas. The MPSF has produced eight of the last 10 NCAA women's champions and 10 all-time, while the MPSF men own five total.
FULLERTON'S MPSF CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY: Friday will mark the fourth consecutive season that the Titans participate in the MPSF Championships. Beginning in 2014, Fullerton has finished 15th, 18th and 19th, respectively. The Titans have had one student-athlete advance to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships when Ciara Short finished ninth in the 400 meters in 2011.
2017 RECORDS BROKEN: Cal State Fullerton has broken five program indoor records during the 2017 season.
- Freshman Samantha Huerta set the program's new one-run mile record with a time 5:01.67 at the Huksy Invitational on Feb. 11.
- Sophomore Brianna Jacklin set the new record for the Titans in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:53.49 on Feb. 10 at the Husky Invitational.
- The women's distance medley team of junior Arianna Fuentes (1,600), freshman Chanel Rogers (400), Huerta (800) and senior Sierra Ungerman (1,200) set the new Fullerton record with a time of 12:05.41 at the Husky Invitational on Feb. 10.
- Freshman Shelby Noble set a new Cal State Fullerton indoor track and field record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.75 meters at the Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 11.
- Freshman Naiah Boardingham opened the season with a new long jump record of 5.70 meters at the Lumberjack Team Challenge on Jan. 21.
LONGEST-TENURED COACH: As the 2017 season gets underway, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders enters his 29th season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton.
