SEATTLE, Wash. – On the final day of competition at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Washington, the Cal State Fullerton women's indoor track and field team saw two school records fall as Ty'Jalayah Robertson and Tejera Dial broke their own records in the high jump and 800-meter run, respectively.

Robertson set the Fullerton record in the high jump the last time the Titans made the trip to Seattle, Wash.  While competing in the UW Invitational on Jan. 30-31, the sophomore from Los Angeles posted a jump of 5-feet-5.75 inches, which tied the previous mark set by Sandy Gonzalez.  Robertson was determined to surpass the mark this time around, setting the new school record after clearing a height of 5-feet-7.25 inches.

Dial was the second Titan to break a school record on Saturday that she previously owned.  The senior originally set the best mark in Fullerton history in the 800m run in her last time participating in the event at the Husky Invitational over Valentine's Day weekend in Seattle, Wash.  The Bakersfield, Calif. native set a new Fullerton mark this time around in Seattle, running the 800m run in 2:13.67 seconds.

Friday Recap

Nine Titans participated in five different events on the first day of competition at the MPSF Championships.  The events Fullerton took part in on Friday included the pentathlon, 60-meter dash, 200m dash, 60m hurdle and the weight throw.

Alexis Stewart, Brooke Hardge and Alexandra Stewart all kicked off the preliminary heat of the 60m dash with Alexis Stewart posting a season best 7.85 second finish, the best of the day for any Titan.  In the final heat of the 200m dash, Elizabeth Claustro took center stage by posting a season-best finish of 25.80 sec.

Jessica Flores stepped into the spotlight on this day with a season-best throw of 16.97m to finish 11th place overall, the best finish of any Titan on Friday.  Alexandria Kemp also posted a season best, and earned a top-15 finish with a throw of 16.26m.  Amanda Mercado rounded out the Titans, finishing with a distance of 15.73m after her first attempt and fouling on her last two attempts.

Taylor Frank carried the torch for Fullerton in the pentathlon event at the MPSF Championships on Friday, finishing only 41 points shy of setting her own school record set earlier this year at the NAU Invitational over Valentine's Day weekend.  Frank finished the 60m hurdle in 9.13 seconds, the 800m run in 2:36.15, jumped a distance of 5.24m in the long jump, a height of 1.57m in the high jump and posted a 8.42m distance in the shot put.

Saturday Recap

Runners

In addition to the record breaking performance from Dial in the 800m run, the Titans competed in the 400-meter dash, the one-mile run and the distance medley relay on Saturday at the MPSF Championships.  Elizabeth Claustro came up with a personal best time of 58.94 seconds in the 400m dash, the first time this season she broke the 59.00 sec. mark in three tries this season.

Emily Taylor and Arianna Fuentes took part in the one-mile run as well, posting solid times of 5:16.51 and 5:17.26, respectively, in their first performance of the year in the event.  The Titans also set a season-best time in the distance medley relay competition in Seattle.  The team of Fuentes, Dial, Taylor and Calaiah Branch turned in a time of 12:28.60 sec. in their first time competing in the event as a team this season.

The last event of the weekend featured the 4x400 meter relay competition.  The first-time team of B. Hardge, A. Stewart, Claustro and Branch set a season-best time of 3:50.89 to finished 12th place overall.

Jumps

The same day that Robertson broke her own school record in the high jump competition, Brooke Hardge posted a season-best jump in the long jump, breaking the 5-meter plateau and jumping 5.01m.  Laura Hamann also competed and jumped 4.84m on her first attempt before fouling on the next two attempts.

The triple jump was another busy event for the Titans on Saturday as three student-athletes took part in the competition.  Ifunanya Gwacham posted the best distance of the meet for any Titan, jumping 11.22 meters.  Robertson turned in a distance of 11.19m and Hamann jumped 10.83m.

Throws

Amanda Mercado was the lone thrower to take part in the action on the last day of competition in Seattle, as she battled for the top spot in the shot put event.  Mercado's best throw of the day traveled 11.14 meters, good enough for 26th place overall.

"Overall, the girls performed well against great competition," head coach John Elders said.  "Ty'Jalayah's high jump was so exciting, as she had a couple great attempts at 5-foot-9 inches.  Tejera really competed well against top competition and Jessica threw a big personal record in the weight throw on Friday.  I think the indoor season is a strong indicator that we're going to have a strong year outdoors."
