Titan Track and Field Signs Three for the 2015-16 Season

Titan Track and Field Signs Three for the 2015-16 Season

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field program's received national letters of intent from three female student-athletes to join the Titans for the 2015-16 season head coach John Elders announced Wednesday afternoon.

"I'm very pleased with the quality of our early signings," Elders said. "This is the first year in a while that an early signing period has been available for the sports of cross country and track & field.  My coaching staff has been working very hard to bring in an outstanding 2015-16 recruiting class."

Sierra Ungerman | Anaheim, Calif. | Canyon High School (Anaheim) | Long Distance

Ungerman comes to Fullerton via Mt. Sac Community College where as a freshman she finished third in the Junior College State Meet with a 1500-meter time of 4:36.15.  She also competed on the Cross Country team, where she improved immensely from her freshman year to her sophomore year, finishing the three-mile course at the Community College State Meet in 15th (18:52.5) as a freshman and coming in seventh (18:21.5) this past season in the same meet.

"We're really excited to have Sierra join us as she has really improved at the community college level after high school," Elders said.  "Her running is really moving in the right direction and she is such a hard worker who will really help the quality of our team and program from the very beginning."

Alysse McMillen | Reno, Nev. | Reno, High School | Pole Vault

McMillen's road to Fullerton Track and Field is different than most, as she only began competing in the pole vault event a year ago.  A former gymnast, who could not continue her gymnastics career due to injury, McMillen decided to take her athletic ability to the track.  In her first season competing, she broke her high school's record with a 12-foot pole vault.  She finished third place in the Nevada State Championships in 2013, and was named the Reno High School Girls Outstanding Field Event Athlete last season.  McMillen is also a member of the National Honor Society, boasting a 3.9 G.P.A.
"Alysse is an outstanding talent and a great student," Elders said.  "What's very interesting about her is that she has only been pole vaulting for less than a year now and she's already a 12-foot vaulter.  We think she has the potential to be one of the top vaulters in the conference, if not the entire region.  We are really very excited about her prospects when she arrives on campus."

Anastasia Chiodo | Redondo Beach, Calif. | Redondo Union High School | Sprints

A four-year letter winner at Redondo Union High School, Chiodo has anchored three-straight 4X100 meter relay Bay League Titles for the Sea Hawks.  She also anchored the 2013 relay team that beat Mater Dei to win the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Championship.  Chiodo was honored with the Sea Hawk Award for most improved student-athlete last season by her team.
"Anastasia has scary potential and is extremely dedicated, which makes a her a great addition for us," Elders said.  "She is motivated to succeed at the Division I level, and is a very competitive student-athlete who is a very good fit for our program."

The women's Indoor Track and Field season begins at the UNM Lobo Collegiate Meet on Saturday, Jan. 24, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
