Titan Athletics Partners With Northwestern Mutual Newport Beach

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton Academic Services hosted the Titans newest partner, Northwestern Mutual Newport Beach in a life skills workshop to 150 Titan student-athletes last month.

The workshop taught the student-athletes many thought-provoking lessons, one of them being that if we pay attention, real attention, to two people for 90 days and encourage those two people to pay attention to two people each, we could touch the lives of over 1 billion people and create a more selfless and teamwork driven world.

The importance of leadership, selflessness and a willingness to accept change were emphasized as key components for a successful life and career. Our partnership with Northwestern Mutual Newport Beach has already helped to inspire student-athletes to take initiative and step up to leadership roles.

“Having to be a leader requires you to take on different roles and responsibilities and the advice he gave can help with that on and off the field,” said men’s soccer senior midfielder, Julian Okai. “If you want to be a good leader, it’s important to set a good example.”

Through their partnership with Titans Athletics, Northwestern Mutual Newport Beach will have opportunities to continue to positively impact the lives of student-athletes through leadership skills presentations, internship opportunities and leadership advising as partnered with Academic Services.

“On behalf of all of my team here at Northwestern Mutual Newport Beach, I wanted to say that we could not be more excited about our partnership with Cal State University Fullerton,” said managing partner Timothy M. Mulroy, CLU, ChFC. “The thing I'm most excited about is how we are fully aligned in growing the leaders of tomorrow.”

One of the opportunities that student-athletes can choose to get involved with is the internship program that Northwestern Mutual Newport Beach offers. This internship program has consistently been ranked as a Top 10 internship according to the Vault Guide and can provide potential career options after graduation.

Marisa Van Winkle, Director of Campus Selection for Northwestern Mutual Newport Beach, attended the workshop and expressed her enthusiasm for the future partnership with the Titans:

“The life skills event on Tuesday evening was the perfect way to formally kick off and introduce the partnership between Northwestern Mutual-Newport Beach and Titan Athletics. The student-athletes’ energy was contagious and we could not have asked for a better turn out.
