FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Athletic Director Jim Donovan, Assistant Athletic Director Aaron Tapper and Director of Strength and Conditioning Isaac Salazar along with the Chief of Operations for Student Affairs Dr. David Forgues, unveiled the Titans new weight room on Thursday afternoon.

“There are many people we have to thank,” Donovan said following the ribbon cutting ceremony. “First and foremost is Cal State Fullerton President Dr. Mildred García. She has been tremendously supportive of athletics during the last 17 months she has been at Cal State Fullerton.”

Located in the Kinesiology and Health Science building on the Cal State Fullerton campus, the project was led by the on-campus department of Capital Project Management and the construction was completed by NuAge Development.

“This is just the start of upgrading all of the facilities that are so important to ensuring the success of student-athletes in the classroom and on the playing field,” Forgues said.

API Consultants was the architecture company that worked on the 4,000 square-foot facility that features two coaches’ offices.

The flooring was completed by PLAE flooring while the weight lifting racks were supplied by Hammer Strength thru Advanced Exercise Equipment.

“We went with Hammer Strength HD elite racks for their versatility and custom configuration of all of their attachments,” Salazar said. “We have eight HD elite combo racks that include a power rack a half rack as well as reverse hooks to create a third half rack. This allows our staff to maximize the space and have the ability to safely train a large number of athletes at one time by creating 24 places.”

The flooring allowed Fullerton to create a custom wood inlay platform layout to establish a larger and more usable training space. The weight room is equipped with Eleiko weightlifting equipment, one of the world’s best barbell and plate companies, which was used in the 2012 London Games.

“We have increased the number of racks, dumbells, bars and plates to provide the student-athlete with the best training resources to develop, perform, and stay durable for their upcoming seasons and future careers,” Salazar said. “We have also upgraded by bringing in technology such as Dartfish and Coach’s Eye to create greater feedback to ensure proper weight training technique and progression.”
