FULLERTON, Calif. - The 12-time defending national champion Cal State Fullerton Dance Team heads to Orlando, Fla., this weekend to defend its 12 national championships at the 2013 UDA/UCA Collegiate National Competition at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Saturday.
In the Division I Jazz competition, Fullerton joins 20 other teams from around the nation in the semifinal round which begins at 1:30 p.m. PT. Approximately 10 finalists will be culled from the group for the final round later that evening at 6:15 p.m. PT with an awards ceremony to follow at 7:30 p.m. PT.
For the first time, Cal State Fullerton will also compete in the Division I Pom semifinals which begin at 10:30 a.m. PT.

Our road to nationals has been quite the journey. We have nine
rookies on our team, and we knew we had our work cut out for us. In
September, assistant coach Kenndra Alvarez led the team in a
cardio/pilates cross fit regimen. Also, every Sunday, she led the
team in a private technique class. This helped build our stamina
and learn how to dance as one team.
In October, we learned our Pom Routine, and this is our first time competing in this competition, and it is the best form of cardio the team can do. The cardio definitely helped with the transition of learning our jazz routine. From that point on jazz has been our main focus as that is the title we are defending.
From after the holidays until now, we have practiced every single day. The team has remained positive and determined, and has focused on one common goal - winning another championship.
I have no doubt that when the team steps on that competition floor, the ladies will give everything they have, and express through their performance everything they have worked for this season. We are very excited, and ready to show the nation what the CSUF Dance Team is all about.
